Arthur Meighen Building Rehabilitation

Location: Toronto, ON
Year Completed: 2023
Client: PSPC - Public Services and Procurement Canada
Construction Manager: Urbacon Buildings Group Inc.
Architects: Dialog

The Arthur Meighen Building Rehabilitation (AMBR) was selected by the Canada Green Building Council as one of 16 buildings in Canada to participate in a pilot project of the new Zero Carbon Building initiative. This 10-storey building was originally built in the 1950s and a feasibility study determined that the building’s greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced by over 80% through deep-energy retrofits such as geothermal heating and photo-voltaic panels added to the building envelope and systems. High-efficiency punch windows and curtain wall, provided by Ennova Facades, helped the project meet and exceed its sustainability goals. The AMBR achieved LEED Platinum certification, after originally targeting LEED® Gold. The project is also seeking a WELLTM Silver certifications.
